Probate tax rose to $15 per $1,000 above $100,000
An Act to Amend the Probate Court Act received Royal Assent on June 12, 2026, and the new rates apply to applications filed from that date. The tax is now $200 up to $20,000, $200 plus $5 per $1,000 from $20,000 to $100,000, and $600 plus $15 per $1,000 above $100,000. A $1,000,000 estate pays $14,100.
Drug plan premiums can reach $241.33 a month per adult
Seniors without drug coverage who do not receive the GIS can join the New Brunswick Drug Plan, an income based plan for uninsured residents. Since November 1, 2025 the top premium is $241.33 a month per adult, for income over $94,002 (individual) or $159,280 (family) on the previous year's return.
A 10% renovation credit for seniors at any income
Residents 65 and over, and family members living with them, can claim a refundable credit of 10% on up to $10,000 of eligible work on a principal residence each year, worth up to $1,000. Grab bars, handrails, ramps and walk in bathtubs qualify; general maintenance does not.
Probate figures published before June 12, 2026 predate the current schedule, so check the date on any New Brunswick probate estimate before relying on it.
